How can TD MySpend provide actionable financial insights to improve users' credit ratings while increasing MAU?

With many Gen Z bankers struggling to manage their credit repayments, aimlessly tapping their cards, budgeting gets hard and can be tedious. Not knowing how to efficiently allocate funds, many students often overspend without realizing.

SmartSpend provides users with personalized budgeting insights, recommending a best practice budgeting plan to follow, making budgeting easy and hassle free.

And the winner is…

In 24 hours, our team researched, ideated, and designed a solution that carried us all the way to the finals of the competition. The pace was intense and every round pushed us to sharpen our ideas and validate them with real user insights

Although our team didn’t win the competition, this experience became one of my biggest growth moments. By studying the winning solutions, I gained perspective on how other teams framed user problems and translated them into actionable features. It reinforced for me that strong product design isn’t just about creativity, it’s about making tough tradeoffs, staying grounded in user research, and ensuring solutions are viable for both the business and the customer.

KEY LEARNINGS

Grow from setbacks

Failure fuels improvement

Reaching the finals but not winning reminded me that each outcome is an opportunity to reflect, study alternatives, and sharpen my design judgment for future challenges.

Lead through tradeoffs

Balancing people & priorities

Facilitating team discussions around desirability, feasibility, and viability, strengthened my leadership skills in driving alignment between user needs and business goals.
